Our Learn to Skate program is specifically designed for young children as they take their first steps on the ice in a fun and supportive environment. Experienced coaches guide participants in building fundamental skating skills essential for figure skating, hockey, or recreational skating, fostering confidence and a lifelong passion for the sport.
As a private Kingsville Skates program, we prioritize quality instruction and individual development, helping families navigate the right pathway into hockey or figure skating.
Our progressive curriculum ensures learning remains enjoyable while focusing on the essential skating fundamentals necessary for every skater.
Participants will work on developing vital skills, including:
- Standing up safely
- Balance and agility
- Forward skating
- Stopping
- Turning and control
- Backward skating
- Edge control
- Crossovers
- Confidence on the ice
- And much more.
Throughout the season, we evaluate participants as they develop, allowing coaches to track progress and help guide each skater along their skating journey.
Equipment Required
Please bring:
- CSA-approved hockey helmet with cage (required)
- Hockey skates or figure skates. No clip closure skates.
- Gloves or mittens
- Warm clothing suitable for skating
Snow pants are optional.
Skate aids are not permitted, as they can hinder proper skating development and interfere with instruction.
Is Learn to Skate 1 Right for My Child?
This program is recommended for:
- Children with little or no skating experience
- Future hockey players
- Future figure skaters
- Recreational skaters
- Families looking for professional skating instruction
No previous skating experience is required.

Learn to Skate 2 is designed for youth who are ready to build on their skating fundamentals in a fun, supportive environment. Participants continue developing balance, control, edges, stopping, crossovers, backward skating, and confidence while progressing through our structured evaluation system. Our experienced coaches help prepare skaters for the next step, whether that's hockey, figure skating, or recreational skating.
At Kingsville Skates we emphasize quality instruction, individual development, and helping families find the right pathway into hockey, figure skating, or recreational skating.

Power Skating & Puck Control 1,2,3 & Girls
Program Details
Kingsville Skates' Power Skating & Puck Control Program is designed for players looking to improve their game, this high-tempo program combines skating technique, edge control, puck handling, agility, and game-ready movement into every session.
Players train through progressive, skill-focused stations that build confidence, efficiency, and overall performance on the ice.
If your player is looking to continue developing throughout the fall, this program provides quality instruction in a positive and challenging environment.
Players will work on:
- Power skating and stride development
- Edge control and agility
- Acceleration and speed
- Balance and body control
- Puck control and stickhandling
- Turning, transitions, and crossovers
- Game-ready skating skills

Continuing the Legacy
Kingsville Skates has been invited to continue the skating programs previously offered by Skate Kingsville, including the popular Learn to Skate and Power Skating programs. Our goal is to preserve everything families loved while providing a sustainable future for these youth skating programs, allowing them to continue growing and helping skaters develop strong fundamental skills for years to come.

Recreation Financial Assistance
The Town of Kingsville offers two Rec for All programs to help make recreation more affordable for children and youth.
Recreation Assistance Program (P2P)
Provides financial assistance to eligible Kingsville residents who may otherwise be unable to participate in recreation programs.
Kingsville Youth Recreation and Culture Fund
Provides eligible Kingsville residents under 18 with a 50% discount on qualifying programs if they do not qualify for P2P assistance.
Advanced Hockey Programs
Kingsville Skates is owned and operated by Advanced Hockey Programs, an Essex County-based skating and hockey development company established in 2020. Advanced Hockey provides structured development programs for new and experienced players, with a focus on progressive skill development programs, leagues and tournaments.
